About the Journal

The Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS) is a blind, peer-reviewed, and entirely open-access online journal published two times a year (June and December) beginning in 2022 by the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Previously, the publication frequency was three times per year.

The Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS) is dedicated to advancing scholarly research grounded in the intellectual, textual, legal, and civilizational traditions of Islam. The journal primarily publishes original research in core areas of Islamic studies, including:

  • Qur’anic and Hadith Studies
  • Islamic Theology
  • Islamic Law (Sharīʿah & Fiqh)
  • Islamic History and Civilization
  • Islamic Ethics and Philosophy

RIS also welcomes contemporary studies that engage with current issues through an Islamic epistemological, ethical, or jurisprudential framework. RIS encourages the submission of articles in three languages, English, Malay, and Arabic.

The Online Journal of Research in Islamic Studies (RIS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published twice a year by the Academy of Islamic Studies, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. RIS covers a wide range of interdisciplinary topics in Islamic studies, including scientific research, technological advancements, historical and geographical studies, philosophical inquiries, legal perspectives, educational practices, environmental concerns, sociological studies, and ethical issues related to Islam.

The Volume 12 No. 2 of RIS was available online from 15 December 2025. This issue has been available online for 14 accepted papers. All articles in this issue were authored by 34 authors from 5 countries i.e.: Malaysia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Yemen and Pakistan
