Pembabitan Tun Dr. Ismail Dalam Umno: 1951-1957

Abstract

Most studies on UMNO concentrate on certain political figures, such as Dato' Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Tun Abdul Razak. However, writings on the struggle of Tun Dr. Ismail in UMNO are few and far between. This writing intends to highlight Dr. Ismail's involvement in UMNO, seldom featured in previous works. Discussions in this work include Dr. Ismail's struggle during his early years in UMNO until the independence of Malaya on 31 August 1957. This writing, other than providing observations on the factors of Dr. Ismail's entry into UMNO, also details the reason behind Dr. Ismail's late entry into the party. This study argues that Dato' Onn is the main reason that prevented Dr. Ismail from joining UMNO. Furthermore, the struggle for independence was the main incentive for Dr. Ismail's decision to join UMNO
